Our consulting and testing services range from commercial and residential land development to single family structures, retail properties, multistory buildings, post tensioned structures and high rises. Soils Observation & Materials Testing

Our Washington Area Council of Engineering Laboratories and Virginia Department of Transportation certified technicians are trained to perform all levels of soil testing from monitoring fill placement, stripping of top soil, proof-rolling of subgrades, testing of compacted fill, moisture density relationships and the collection of soil samples for laboratory testing. Our technicians have some of the most experience in the area, with over 25 years of experience and knowledge.

Our specialties include large and small scale land development including both residential and commercial sites to include subgrades on deep foundations and specialty foundations. The site testing and inspection department is also qualified to monitor the placement of reinforced earth structures and specialty foundations, including Geogrid Retaining Walls, Driven Piles and Geopiers.

Soil Consultants’ staff is equipped with state of the art equipment (i.e. Nuclear Density Gauges, Dynamic Cone Penetrometers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Static Cone Penetrometers and we even have several Sand Cones just in case)


Concrete Observation & Materials Testing

Our certified concrete technicians will observe batch plant operations, pump truck discharge, chute truck discharge and hand mixed concrete. Testing includes slump, placement temperature, air entrainment and preparation of laboratory and field specimens (cylinders) for compressive strength testing.

During cold weather concreting additional services are provided to ensure that your concrete is protected from the elements and cured in the proper environment.

Our staff utilizes our very own concrete laboratory so we maintain control of your specimens to ensure accurate, reliable results for stripping, 7 and 28 day results.

For large scale projects, concrete specimens are picked up in a specially designed bodied truck. The interior rack system has been designed, reinforced and protected to ensure your cylinders are delivered to the laboratory undamaged.


Asphalt Observation & Materials Testing

Observation and Testing Services for Base, Intermediate or Surface Asphalt installation on public/private streets and parking areas which includes:

  • Roller Pattern Testing
  • Control Strip Testing
  • Lot Density Testing / Nuclear Density Gauge
  • Placement monitoring for Quality Control
  • Extraction of newly placed asphalt samples by coring method for thickness verification and other laboratory testing
  • Specific Gravity Tests

Masonry Observation & Materials Testing
